This Lemon-Lime Ice Cream is so refreshing, simple to make, and the perfect finish to a warm summer meal. It’s delightful!

I tend to go on a lemon and lime kick during the hottest months, and this recipe is one of the reasons. Today I’m sharing a cherished childhood favorite: Lemon-Lime Ice Cream. It’s bright, creamy, and easy to make.

This ice cream is incredibly refreshing—exactly the treat you want on a hot day. My mom found this recipe in the newspaper decades ago, and it’s been a family favorite ever since. Every time I make it I’m reminded how much I love the bright lemon-lime flavor and wonder why I don’t make it more often.
Recently we scooped it into waffle cones and decided we may never eat homemade ice cream any other way. The crisp cone pairs perfectly with the tangy, creamy ice cream.
TIPS FOR MAKING LEMON-LIME ICE CREAM:
- Use heavy whipping cream for the richest, creamiest texture.
- Always use fresh lemon and lime juice — it makes a big difference in flavor.
- If using a larger ice cream maker than the 2-quart model, increase the recipe proportionally.
- This ice cream churns to a soft-serve texture. For firmer ice cream, freeze it in a covered container for several hours or overnight.
- Press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the ice cream before sealing the container to prevent ice crystals.
- Serve in waffle cones if you can—this flavor is especially lovely that way.
