Strawberries and Cream Dessert: Sugared fresh strawberries layered with a vanilla-scented, sweetened whipped cream create an easy, no-bake dessert that’s perfect for warm days. It looks elegant but is simple to prepare with common ingredients — ideal for summer gatherings and year-round enjoyment.

This simple dessert resembles a mini parfait with pretty layers of berries and cream. While strawberries shine in summer, they are available year-round, so you can serve this treat anytime.
Some time ago I shared a family-favorite strawberry dessert made with frozen whipped topping. Many readers asked for a substitute for cool whip, so I adapted the original into a lighter version using real whipped cream sweetened and stabilized with powdered sugar. The result keeps the familiar flavor and texture while using simple, wholesome ingredients.

Is This a Make-Ahead Dessert?
Yes. You can assemble Strawberries and Cream just before serving or prepare it several hours ahead. Refrigerate until serving — the cream will firm up and the dessert will stay cool and refreshing. Serve individual portions in small glasses, or layer everything in a larger glass dish for parties.

Ingredients for Strawberries and Cream Dessert:
- Fresh strawberries (about 1 lb / 16 oz)
- Granulated sugar (2 tablespoons)
- Cold heavy cream (1 cup)
- Confectioners’ (powdered) sugar (1/4 cup)
- Vanilla extract (1/2 teaspoon)
- Fresh mint or peppermint leaves for garnish (optional)

Coating strawberries with a little granulated sugar both sweetens them and helps release their juices, making a lightly saucy berry layer. The heavy cream is whipped with powdered sugar and a touch of vanilla until it forms stable, fluffy peaks.
How to Make Strawberries and Cream Dessert:
- Hull and quarter the strawberries. In a medium bowl, toss them with the granulated sugar and let sit for 10–15 minutes so the sugar draws out the juices.
- In a chilled bowl, combine cold heavy whipping cream, confectioners’ sugar and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form and the cream is light and airy (about 2–2½ minutes).
- Transfer the whipped cream to a piping bag fitted with a wide tip, or simply spoon it if you prefer.
- Stir the strawberries again and divide slightly more than half among six serving glasses or bowls, spooning a bit of the syrup over the fruit if desired.
- Top the berries with half the whipped cream, then add the remaining strawberries and finish with another generous layer of cream. Garnish with fresh mint or peppermint leaves for a colorful, festive touch.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve. Keeps well when chilled for a few hours.
