Pizza gets a healthy upgrade with this Mushroom, Asparagus, and Ricotta Pizza. Topped with fresh vegetables on a grain-free almond-meal and cauliflower crust, this version may make you skip delivery for good.
When I advise people on eating healthier, my top tip is consistent: shop the perimeter of the grocery store whenever possible. Focus on fresh produce, organic meats, and seafood, and minimize processed items from the center aisles. I keep a few pantry staples on hand, but most of my meals come from ingredients with a shorter shelf life.
I follow this approach because many nonperishable grocery items are highly processed and contain additives I prefer to avoid. Still, no one can live entirely from the perimeter. Healthy eating takes effort, but it shouldn’t be overwhelming or impractical.
Take pizza for example. Many boxed mixes and frozen crusts use long ingredient lists and deliver little nutrition. Making dough from scratch can be time-consuming and often more work than ordering delivery. That’s why I rarely post pizza recipes—preparing a traditional dough can be a commitment I don’t always want to make.
What helps are companies that create real-food products that make wholesome meals easy and delicious. One brand I’ve enjoyed is Simple Mills. They offer premade baking mixes for cookies, cakes, bread, and pizza, using simple, gluten-free, paleo-friendly, and dairy-free ingredients. Their pizza crust mix surprised me: it tasted great and handled like delivery-style dough. A common issue with homemade gluten-free or paleo crusts is a crumbly texture that requires utensils; this crust is sturdy enough to pick up and eat by hand.
For toppings I used favorites—onions and mushrooms—and added chopped asparagus for a seasonal twist. The Simple Mills crust even includes cauliflower, so you’re sneaking extra vegetables into the base as well. The ingredient list is short and straightforward: almonds, arrowroot powder, flax meal, cauliflower, organic oregano, cream of tartar, and organic garlic. That’s it—no mystery additives.
This pizza is a simple way to enjoy a lighter, vegetable-forward meal without sacrificing flavor or texture. The combination of sautéed mushrooms and asparagus, creamy ricotta, and melty mozzarella on a crisp, grain-free crust creates a balanced bite with bright, savory notes. If you want to try a ready-made option that performs like a homemade crust, pick up a box of the crust mix and see how it compares to delivery.
Give this Mushroom, Asparagus, and Ricotta Pizza a try and enjoy a healthier take on a classic favorite. It’s quick to assemble, bakes in about 15–20 minutes, and makes a satisfying dinner for the whole family.
