Ingredient Notes

Rainbow fruit kebabs on a plate

I chose a variety of everyday fruits arranged in rainbow colors to give the skewers visual appeal and a mix of flavors and textures.

Here are suggested fruits by color to help you build your skewers:

Red/Pink: Strawberries, raspberries, apples, dragon fruit, watermelon

Orange: Oranges, clementines, cantaloupe, mango, papaya, peaches

Yellow: Bananas, pineapple, starfruit

Green: Green grapes, kiwi, green apples, pears, honeydew melon

Blue/Purple: Blueberries, blackberries, grapes, figs, plums

Pick any combination you like — the recipe is flexible and easy to adapt to seasonal produce and personal preference.

How to make rainbow fruit skewers

These are lovely served with a simple vegan fruit dip.

1. Choose your fruits and wash everything thoroughly. A gentle soak in 4 cups of water with 2 teaspoons of baking soda for 10–15 minutes helps remove surface residues; then drain, rinse, and air dry.

2. Cut fruit into bite-sized pieces suitable for skewering. For mini skewers, make the pieces smaller so they sit neatly on the sticks.

3. Thread the fruit onto wooden skewers in the color order you prefer. Be mindful of balance so the fruit stays secure on the stick.

The best appetizer for events and holidays

You can tailor fruit choices and colors to match seasons, holidays, or special events:

Baby Shower or Gender Reveal: Use pinks and reds or blues and greens depending on the theme.

Pink/Red options: strawberries, raspberries, dragon fruit, watermelon

Blue/Green options: blueberries, kiwi, green grapes

Halloween: Create orange-and-black skewers using clementines or cantaloupe paired with blackberries.

4th of July: Aim for red, white, and blue with strawberries, banana slices, and blueberries.

Christmas: Combine red and green fruits like strawberries, raspberries, apple slices, kiwi, and green grapes.
