Transform Your Wedding Dress into a Stunning Keepsake Cake Topper

It’s time for another fashion-inspired post celebrating the art of turning couture into cake. Over the past year we’ve fallen in love with the “from dress to cake” concept, where talented bakers recreate bridal gowns as edible works of art. One of the pioneers of that idea is Rachael Teufel of Intricate Icings Cake Design in Erie, Colorado, who was featured in our very first “from dress to cake” post. Since then, Rachael has continued to transform gowns of every style into stunning cakes. This latest creation—complete with ruching, floral frills, and the actual dress used as inspiration—is another breathtaking example.

Rachael of Intricate Icings Cake Design explains the inspiration behind the cake:

“We created this gown-inspired wedding cake for the Martina Liana trunk show at The Bridal Collection. Trunk shows allow brides to see a larger selection from a specific designer, and they also give us the opportunity to showcase our cake design skills using those same gowns as inspiration. When I viewed Martina Liana’s collection, I was drawn to a gown featuring overlapping layers of fabric—ruching—with floral accents at the hip and shoulder.”

Rachael shares her techniques for bringing the gown to edible life:

“The bottom tier was carved to mirror the skirt’s silhouette, then layered with modeling chocolate ruffles to mimic the fabric’s movement. The upper tiers were covered with fondant and textured to replicate ruching. For the gown’s floral accents, I crafted modeling chocolate petals and layered them to recreate the overlapping petal effect. Near the base of the cake I added a few loose petals accented with sugar pearls for an elegant finish.”

The result is a true showstopper—beautiful, detailed, and undeniably bridal. Traditionally the flower girl is the sweetest little presence in white, but with a cake like this stealing the spotlight, it could easily compete for attention. This dress-inspired design deserves its own moment in the bridal presentation—perhaps playfully dubbed the “flour girl.”

Our thanks to Rachael Teufel of Intricate Icings Cake Design for another spectacular From Dress to Cake transformation that continues to inspire cake and bridal enthusiasts alike.
